Now that season 2 of The Walking Dead has officially ended, the world is safe from zombies again, or is it? The Mean Who Wear Many Hats (yes indeed that’s the name of the dev studio) are developing their flash-based post-apocalyptic zombie survial game for the iOS platform.

Dubbed Organ Trail, The Men Who Wear Many Hats have taken the Oregon Trail format and given it a post-apocalyptic zombie twist where your goal is to survival nuclear fallout in Washigton and make your way to of course, Oregon. You travel via station wagon and encounter many zombie-fied obstacles as you make your way thru each city collecting supplies and dodging zombie bites.

The zombie survival game was originally developed as a flash game for the web and is available now for free on their site. The iOS port will feature new enhanced updates that will make a better experience on the iPad or iPhone.

One of the core gameplay mechanics is a text-based scenario selector similar to those old-school adventure books. It’s a great throwback to classic pc era. The devs really want to emulate the classic game format that it relates to. The retro 8-bit art style is just one indication.

The developers are among others who have found similar success for funding their development with a Kickstarter campaign. The difference here is you can actually try the game out now with the flash version and see if you would dig a iOS port with modified touch controls. In fact, you can read everything the devs have promised with the iOS version on their KickStarter page.

The Men Who Wear Many Hats are hoping to have the game finished for submission to Apple by the end of May.

We will be there with the review to see whether the UCC crew will all survive the trip to Oregon.

Here’s several more screenshots of the flash-version based game.

Everyone says they are sick of zombie games, but the truth is that a lot of them are just plain fun and people play them anyway. I think this is a hilarious idea and will probably end up giving it a try.
